Commercials for Products that I Remember by Sarah Raplee

So many commercials, so few products and services I connect with them! What is that special something that makes that connection?

From early childhood, I remember a jingle for Pepsodent Toothpaste:

"You'll wonder where the yellow went
When you brush your teeth with Pepsodent!"

I'm sure the catchy toon paired with the clever rhyme were enough to cement that earworm somewhere in my child's brain.

More recently, I totally LOVE and remember the Chewy.com commercial with the little dog and the St. Bernard getting excited about a package arriving from Chewy.com. The big dog calls it 'the peanut butter box' because his peanut butter flavored treats come in it. The little dog reminds him it's a box of stuff from Chewy.com. The big dog chants 'peanut butter box, peanut butter box!'

Why do I love the commercial? Because it has funny talking dog characters in it, and I love and own pets. Why do I remember it's a Chewy.com commercial? Because they are pets and Chewy.com sells pet products, and because Chewy.com is named repeatedly in their conversation.

Limu Emu and Doug
Liberty Mutual Insurance

I also enjoy the Liberty Mutual Insurance commercials with Limu Emu and Doug. I'm a sucker for animals and rhymes, plus they are funny in that Lemu seems to be smarter than Doug. even when he's just behaving like a bird (i.e., pecking, sitting on a white ball as if it were an egg). The one where Doug slides down the fire pole and Lemu takes the elevator is priceless.

Why do I remember these are Liberty Mutual Insurance commercials? Well, there's the alliteration of Lemu and Liberty. But I think it's mostly because of the jingle:

"Liberty, Liberty, Liberty! Li-ber-ty!
Liberty Mutual - Only pay for what you need!

Are there commercials you enjoy? Do you remember the products they promote?
