AT ANY PRICE by Debut New Adult Romance Author Brenna Aubrey

When the must catches you and doesn’t let you go…

A little over a year ago, when I was knee-deep in a historical romance project, the idea for a contemporary romance struck my fancy.  An offhand comment from my critique partner about an idea for a premise—a heroine who puts her virginity up for auction and the hero, who is the highest bidder, got me thinking. And the more I thought about the premise, the more I couldn’t let it go.

I started to think about who this woman was and I began ask questions about her: Why would she do this? How could she do this? I thought of a strong young woman, a woman who is completely independent, who has serious financial troubles and found herself without a way to handle them. She has the clever resourcefulness to handle what came her way.

Mia is a brilliant young woman.  She’s only in college by grace of her scholarship and has worked single-mindedly during her premed program to earn a perfect grade point average.  She’s a scientist.  She’s logical.  So for me it was important that she make the auction for her virginity extremely logical.  Everything, in her mind, is perfectly reasoned out.

So she takes to her blog and uses examples, from history and legend, where a woman’s virginity was used as a bartering chip—most usually by men—and writes the “Virgin’s Manifesto” which appears at the beginning of the book.  Once I wrote it, the story would not let me go. I had to see it through to its logical end.

And so that’s how a book gets written, in fast draft form anyway, in twelve days. It took several more months to make it pretty but that first snag of the muse was inescapable.

Here is the BLURB and cover for my debut novel, At Any Price, a New Adult Contemporary Romance.

Achievement Unlocked: Geek Virgin

When Mia Strong, proud geek-girl and popular gaming blogger, auctions off her virginity online, she knows she'll make waves. But what she will not be making is a love connection. Her rules are set in stone: One night. No further contact.

It's a desperate step, but it's the only way she can go to medical school and pay her mother's mounting hospital bills.

Difficulty Level: Millionaire CEO

Adam Drake, the enigmatic auction winner, is a software prodigy who made his first million at seventeen. Now, in his mid-twenties, he's sexy, driven and--as CEO of his own gaming company--he's used to making the rules. Before Mia knows what's happening, he's found the loophole in the rules of her auction. Every stipulation she's made to protect her heart gets tossed by the wayside.

She can't tell if he's playing her...or if he's playing for keeps.

This New Adult book is intended for readers over the age of 18 due to adult language, sexual content and adult situations.

Hi Brenna, Welcome to Romancing The Genres! I love the story about how different books are "born". It is amazing when one stops and thinks about it - a casual comment, seeing something that looks out of place, a dream - any and all of these things and more are the spark that ignites our compelling need to tell a particular story. So glad Mia's story was written by you.

Sounds like a different plot - Yay! I get tired of the same old plots. You are a writer to follow!
