Action, Adventure and an Exotic Local with Your Summer Read

By Diana McCollum

Secrets of a Mayan Moon” is one of my favorite books.  I read it several years ago, but the story and the location has stuck with me.  PatyJager creates a story filled with intrigue, danger and love.

Isabella Mumphrey, a sheltered child prodigy who is smart beyond her years, graduates with a PHD in Anthropology.  Her uncle invites her to Guatemala to help decipher a Mayan tablet that could change the recorded history of the Mayans.  Ready for an adventure, Isabella jumps at the chance.

Her Uncle sends Tino Kosta, an undercover DEA agent, to meet her at the airport and guide her to the dig site.  Tino is set on finding the man who killed his family and exacting retribution on him.  Tino never expected to fall under the spell of the beautiful Isabella.

Isabella finds herself longing for the handsome Tino.  Is he who he portrays, a guide?  She wants to delve deeper and find out what makes Tino tick.

Unbeknownst to either of them, Isabella has been brought to the Mayan Temple as a sacrifice to the ancient gods.

Tino must choose to exact his revenge or save Isabella.  Doing either will cost him the other.

Paty Jager makes the location another character of the story.  I could feel the heat of the jungle, the sounds of the holler monkeys, and the torrential rains.

I loved Isabella’s vest and all the interesting items she carried in it, things for jungle life and things to save her life.

Wonderful, wonderful story!

And the best part, Isabell Mumphrey is a series.  Read more about Isabella’s adventures in “Aztec Temple” & “Hopi Blue Star”.

Do you like books that take place in a country or local you've never visited?

Moving this book up on my TBR pile, Diana. And yes, I do like to read books set in places I'd like to visit or have visited (the latter if it is accurate). Love watching "House Hunters International" so I get a feel for living in various locations around the world.

PS: Love Paty's books. If you read any of the Isabella Mumphrey series I bet you'll love her "Spirit" series.
