Military Romance - Paranormal Style

By Terry Spear

They say to write what you know, and since I was in the military, it seems appropriate. My father was, my
mother, my son is, my sister, and so forth.

But I have kind of a twist to it. I love the paranormal, so plain old military romance is not as much fun for me as writing something paranormal. Or suspenseful.

I do have characters in books who are former military—such as In the Dead of the Night, that is straight romantic suspense. But then I have taken it to the next level—an officer stationed at Fort Hood, who is psychic. Again, a romantic suspense. I based it, in part, on some experiences I had while stationed there as a brand new butter bar, or 2nd lieutenant in Bound by Danger. I expanded my paranormal bent in Killing the Bloodlust, where both the hero and heroine are vampire hunters, stationed at Fort Hood. Everyone knows vampires and the hunters exist, but the military doesn't want either in its ranks.

In my wolf stories, I have the SEAL wolves, who are wolf shifters, and were members of a SEAL team, only no one knows about that special side of them—the wolf side, that is. And in my jaguar shifters, they have their own military force, policing their own kind, oftentimes south of the border. With my cougar shifter series, some of the men in the small town are Special Forces.

What could be better than romancing our forces?
