Debut Author Winter Bayne—Secret Identities Anthology

Thank you for inviting me to Romancing the Genres. While I consider myself a science fiction and paranormal romance author, I’ll write anything that strikes my fancy. I have two anthologies releasing in 2015 and am working on flirty sequels to Heroes for Hire as well as other short stories and a novel series. During the day I can be found with my Ragdoll cat in my lap and a book in my hands or spending time with my motley family. After the sun goes down and the stars come out, I release the characters in my imagination to cause chaos in fantasy worlds.

SECRET IDENTITIES ANTHOLOGY
In January 2014 I decided I wanted to be published to fulfill a childhood dream and by August two small publishers offered contracts for my short stories. One of my short stories will be published by Breathless Press in the Secret Identities Anthology.

“Heroes for Hire” is an urban fantasy revolving around characters with super abilities. I wanted an amusing and naughty adventure, so I wrote from Shade’s point of view. Personally, I like the bad girl personality clashing with an upstanding alpha male character. It creates a constant one-up game between the two.

Inspiration grew from Shade willfully misbehaving and Striker attempting to keep her in line. I added superhuman abilities that would balance their power play. One of Striker’s abilities manifested as a means to steam up the story just a touch. My hope is that readers will enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed creating it. I certainly had fun writing Shade’s mischievous choices.

This story was a way for me to determine if I liked this genre and world. I do and if I get positive feedback from readers, I may well continue the Heroes for Hire story and world. Anthologies offer readers quick reads from several authors. They are almost certain to find one that will consume their imagination.

I invite romance readers to sample several talented authors in the Secret Identities Anthology from Breathless Press Available February 3, 2015.

Heroes for Hire: Striker
Shade is an average woman until the government uses her as a human guinea pig, forever changing her life with new superhuman powers. Striker is an ex-military man who sees the benefit of genetically altered humans and turns his vision into a multi-million dollar security business, Heroes for Hire. On opposing sides of the legal use of the genetically altered, Shade’s and Striker’s passions flare, leaving one unanswered question—how good can sex get?

I love the way you describe the story. Not so much what happens but how/why you wrote it.

"It creates a constant one-up game between the two.
Inspiration grew from Shade willfully misbehaving and Striker attempting to keep her in line."

I want to read it because of this. Congrats!

Lisa - thank you! I'll send you buy links when it is out in February.

Sarah - The effort you put forth is wonderful. Thank you for supporting a community.

Diana - It's a small niche, but I must say I had fun writing it. Makes it all worth it and I can't wait to read the other author's story takes on a similar theme.

Sabine - I'll give you a spoiler...there's sex ;) Other than that, I can't say too much and there is a chance all questions won't be answered in the short story either. I'm still world building.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to Romancing The Genres, Winter. Your stories sound intriguing. Love your last question! That certainly is a teaser!!!

I'm not sure what a "Ragdoll Cat" is = a real rag doll that looks like a cat or is it a breed?

Diana McCollum said...

It's a breed of cat. Judith. My son and his wife had one. Mia died at 12 yrs.
