Hello, my name is Vivienne and I am a movie junkie.

Vivienne Lorret

I’m a sucker for a happy ending. Since I write romance, this probably doesn’t surprise anyone. Yet, I’m also somewhat of an insomniac. So, for a Valentine’s weekend treat to myself, I binge-watched three of my favorites while the rest of the house was still asleep.

First on my list: an Audrey Hepburn and Gary Cooper classic, Love in the Afternoon. Hepburn’s portrayal of an innocent music student discovering love and its pitfalls is pure magic. Her facial expressions are captivating and reel me into movie each and every time. I like to watch this one in the black and white version instead of Technicolor. That way, I’m able to appreciate the nuances of the story, rather than focusing on the May/December aspect.

Second: Frances McDormand, Amy Adams, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, and Lee Pace in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. I love this movie! It’s funny and heartbreaking and the cast brings a superb story to life. Miss Pettigrew and Delysia are the perfect heroines, both driven by their own desires and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. And the ending never fails pull a sigh from my heart and a few tears from my eyes.

Last, but certainly not least: Jean Simmons and Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls. Brando creates the perfect gambling rake with every action, word, breath, and smirk. Soon enough he finds himself toe to toe with Simmons as the buttoned-up Sergeant Sarah Brown. The screen sizzles with their chemistry, leaving no doubt that both of them are about to lose something more vital than a wager... their hearts.

So, if you ever find yourself in need of a good sigh or a good cry, I hope you enjoy this list. Also, I'd be interested in learning some of your favorites, too.

Wishing you lots of love!

I've never seen "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day"-just might have to track it down.

On Valentine's Day I watched for the umpteenth time, "An American President". I've seen it so often, I know much of the dialogue and even though there is a fatal flaw that truly does irritate me, I still love it. "Romancing The Stone" is another movie I've watched more than once. The truth is, I'm not much of a movie watcher so my list is somewhat short!

Great movie choices! I love romance movies almost as much as i love romance books!! My husband picks the movies one time and I pick the next time. So we watch a big variety!

I've never seen those movies, but they sound wonderful! :)

When it comes to romance films, I'm a bit exotic: I love Bollywood movies. They're colorful, have beautiful music, are choc-full of emotion, and the majority of them has an HEA. My favorites are Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (Sometimes Happy Sometimes Sad) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (Indian Lovestory).

Nadine, because of your recommendation, I'm going to add some Bollywood to my watch-list. :) Have a great week!

I love Jack and Sarah or A Knight's Tale. Even Megamind (animation meant for kids) is a romance to me - a redeemed villain gets the girl.

Great movie, Pippa! And have you ever watched Howl's Moving Castle. I love the romance in that animated movie. :)
