“The Rainbow Connection" and Magic by Lynn Lovegreen

Like Judith Ashley, I also see magic in everyday life. (See her post at http://romancingthegenres.blogspot.com/2015/10/another-view-of-magic.html.) There are wonderful things around us all the time, whether we live in the city or the country, in the East or West.

Of course, I’m surrounded by everyday magic here in Alaska. I can gaze at mountains or feel the sea breeze on my face without much effort. But even without that, I can enjoy looking at puffy clouds, or wish upon a star, no matter what age I am. Life gives us magic all the time.

Sometimes I think that writers and other artists see more of it than ordinary people. But I know “regular” individuals who do, too. Some of us notice more magic when we’re madly in love. But we can all experience it if we choose to.

I’ll end with a quote from one of my favorite songs, “The Rainbow Connection.” (According to the internet, it was written by Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher in 1979 for The Muppet Movie.) I love it so much that we included in our wedding, when my husband and I got married in 1984. (Thanks to my sister-in-law Peggy for singing it for us—I didn’t realize at the time how hard it was to sing!)

Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far
What's so amazing
That keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me
All of us under its spell, we know that it's probably magic

Lynn Lovegreen grew up in Alaska, and still lives there. Her young adult historical romances are set in the Alaska Gold Rush, a great time for drama, romance, and independent characters. See her website at www.lynnlovegreen.com.

I agree writers and artists do see the world a bit differently. And so does anyone with creativity in their veins. I loved the Muppets of old, not so crazy about the new Muppet show. Pretty song!

Yes, it is, Paty. The new Muppets are fun but in a very different way! :-P

Thanks for reminding me of this song. It was one of my favorites but drifted out of my awareness at some point in time.

Glad you like it too, Judith. Hope it doesn't get stuck in your mind for too long. :-
