Thanksgiving
is next week---Yes, already! This year flew by faster
than a turkey trying to
run from the farmer’s ax (probably not a good analogy as turkeys can only run
about 25 mph).
Thankfully, the grocery
stores take care of the catching and cleaning of the bird.
Anyway, I love Thanksgiving--having family and friends around the dinner table and giving thanks for all the blessings we’ve been given. But most of all I love the food! I mean, really, who doesn’t??
For nearly thirty
years I’ve been the one cooking dinner. Not because I have to….because I want
to. I love preparing the meal and desserts.
The past few years my children have been volunteering to help….which is
fine, I’m not that obsessive about
it, and our menu is generally the same each year:

Turkey,
·
cornbread dressing & gravy,
·
green bean casserole,
·
cranberry salad,
·
croissant rolls
…somewhat
traditional. And I’ll probably limit the
desserts to just pie…which I don’t eat because I don’t like pie (unheard of, I
know. ) Then of course we’ll eat the leftovers
for a couple of days and do it all over again at Christmas. Haha
Another
of our traditions is ’game night’, which, even now as adults, my kids enjoy,
Pictionary being the favorite. We do two teams -- girls against boys-- and use
a large white board to draw the pictures.
This year we’re adding a new game…one we started on my birthday… a Lip
Sync battle.
So,
what are some of the traditional / not so traditional things you do during the
holidays?

Last year I spent Thanksgiving at the Oregon Coast with my best friend of 4 years. We had egg salad sandwiches and champagne for Thanksgiving dinner! This is the second year I'm not been working on Thanksgiving day. Not sure what I'm doing other than Not cooking a big dinner or having family over.
Years ago, we all went to my Mom and Dad's for Thanksgiving and Christmas, big meal, watched football games on television and caught up with each other because family traveled home.
That sounds fun. I can't remember a time when I didn't have a large Thanksgiving party. I look forward to it every year. =)
We always have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, mashed potatoes, candies sweet potatoes, peas , gravy, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce. Pumpkin and pecan pies. Some years I've served 22 or more people. This year will be quieter as only one daughter and her family are coming from California. So only 7 of us! I'm happy though, because the following Tuesday I'll be having knee surgery. The homemade cranberry sauce is a tradition from my childhood. Happy Holidays!
