Time Travel Wish #amwriting

Hi, I'm Pippa Jay, author of SciFi and supernatural stories to engage your emotions.
Until recently, I loved the place that I lived. Brexit and the hideous aftermath that seems set to get much worse before any possibility of it getting better has had me looking longingly at vague plans I started making for a possible move to New Zealand.
But if I'm honest, I would rather travel in time than space. Maybe it's because of being a lifelong Whovian. I have two specific time periods I would like to visit, though I'm not sure the reality might live up to my expectations and be somewhere I'd want to stay indefinitely.
Firstly the medieval period. I love the castles, the clothing, the weapons. I'm a big fan of the Ellis Peters books following the investigations of a medieval Welsh monk, Cadfael, and we go to the local medieval fairs and jousts. But I'm not sure I could put up with the lack of hygiene, medical care, or the loss of my beloved smartphone.
I would also love to visit the future, to see the human race set foot on Mars, or perhaps even farther afield.

Most of all I'd love to see my rather dystopian view of our future proved wrong. We are capable of so much more, and yet our main achievement appears to be an irresistible desire for self destruction. We seem to find it so much easier to destroy and to hate than create and love. Maybe in the future we could find a way to eliminate the darker, more negative side of our psyches. I would like to see us achieve that, rather than something like this:
But some days I feel like a nice solitary cave somewhere might suit me best. I'm a bit of a hermit by nature even before I became an author.

How I ended up with a husband and three monsters, I'm not quite sure. But I'd have to go home to them at some point because I could never leave them behind forever. ^_^

Interesting post, Pippa--your choices reflect the books you write.

Hi, Pippa,
Love your pictures! Sure a diverse group of places/times you'd like to visit! I've always wanted to visit and maybe stay in a castle for a week or so. Maybe even the medieval time for a week. But i'd have to come back to the present and my family and computer! What is the name of the castle in your picture?

I was fortunate enough to stay in a castle a couple of decades ago - Ashford Castle in Ireland. It was luxurious!!! I'd go back in a heart beat. I also loved walking through Leeds Castle in England, also modernized. My fantasy has me living in castles in olden times (Medieval would be good) but no flush toilets or running water much less the medical care, etc.? The reality of that crushes the fantasy.

But I'm with you 100% on living long enough or coming back to see that the human race has figured out how to love and create instead of hate and destroy. And smart phones and computers? I'd rather have a library of books with a comfy chair or chaise or lounge or couch or bed or all of them so I can curl up and read.

Thanks Lynn, and yes, they do. It makes the research more fun if it's something I'm already interested in.

Hi Diana,
we've looked at a few holidays in castles but they're quite pricey. And most have been modernised so I'm not sure it would be quite the same experience as being back in the Dark Ages. On the other hand, at least a modern one would have all the advantages of the 21st century! Lol. Um, don't know the name - the image is from pixabay here https://pixabay.com/en/germany-history-architecture-1330112/ - but this particular castle is in Germany. The palace in Keir was based on Italian castles, and while I was researching those I learned about their matriarchal system which also ended up being a part of my book.

Lol, Judith, I'm jealous of your castle stay! I still love print books but I guess my love of science and scientific background makes me lean toward technology. It's a bit of a contrast - a love of the medieval and a love for technology.
