Fireworks or Frying my Brain? by Paty Jager

Every writer has had one or more people ask them - where do you get your ideas, how do they come to you?

Savannah: bk 1 Silver Dollar Saloon
For me they come in a barrage of scenes or characters that keep popping into my head until I have to write something down to quiet them. Sometimes lyrics from a song will start an idea or seeing a person that would make a unique character. Sometimes all it takes is my brain spinning around trying to find a story that will fit in a project someone is putting together.

That is what happened this past week. I'm a third of the way through book one of the my new historical western romance series, Silver Dollar Saloon. The saloon is set in the town of Shady Gulch in Dakota territory along the Northern Pacific Railway. This story is going along well, considering I had to put it on hold for 4 weeks while I traveled to a conference, had grandchildren visit, and hosted a family reunion. This week I've been back at it, bringing Savannah and Larkin together through adversities.

The Cowboy Six Pack box set I participated in that released June 1st has been doing very well. I was invited to participate in another such box set. I accepted, then decided to bring out an idea that has been simmering in a folder for a while. This novella has to be finished by mid-August.

Which brings me to the Fireworks and Brain Frying. I'm now writing two books at a time. I told myself I would never do this, but I want to have something in the next box set and I want to get this book for the new series out. So I write 2k on one book in the morning and 2k on the other in the afternoon. Hopefully next month for this post, I'll still be sane!

While you're celebrating this great nation tomorrow, I'll be writing! Have a wonderful 4th of July!!

I've always said you are one of the most dedicated authors I know. Not only for your daily word count, but now for writing two books at once! and what a great idea to divide it daily. Hm-m-m, maybe I could get more done that way. I can't wait to read your new Silver Dollar series. I've never been disappointed with any of your series books. Happy 4th!

Paty, I've just started reading # 4, 5, 6 in your Shandra Higheagle series. I loved the first three so I know I'll love these. Now I find you are starting another series! I can't keep up with you. Love that those scenes and characters poke at you until you write their stories down. Keep doing what you're doing!!!
