That’s the title of a Zombies song, and the Romancing the Genres theme for the month. For those of you who are too young to remember, it was a great song from 1968. I couldn’t find a performance from that time period online, but here’s a clip of the band singing it in 2013:
“It’s the Time of the Season for Loving” is one of those songs that is perennially cool. I am blessed with knowing a lot of cool songs—I was a child of the sixties. We had so many pop and rock and roll songs that sound just as good today as they did then.
My all-time favorite band is also from the sixties: the Beatles. The first record I remember listening to was a Beatles 45 on my older sister’s portable record player. We were dancing along, probably doing the twist. And as I grew up, my sister and I knew they were the best band ever. They were top-notch musicians and writers, could play almost any kind of music, and their songs were all about life and love. We sat and listened to their albums, reading the lyrics, for whole evenings together. And when she became a great guitar player and singer herself, she’d sing to me—mostly Beatles songs, of course.
To my mind, the best thing the Beatles and others from the 60s did was give a sense of hope and love to the world at a time we really needed it. My favorite song with that theme is “All You Need is Love.” (Check out the great original video at https://ok.ru/video/5530061019.) That’s a message we still need to hear. As Martin Luther King Jr. said,
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
May today be the season for loving in your own life.
