When superheroes get hungry...

A superhero has to eat, right? They’d have a difficult time fighting the forces of evil on an empty stomach.

The folks at list25.com compiled a list of the top – you guessed it – 25 superheroes of all time. I’ve never heard of some, like Black Bolt. I paired a few with whom I am familiar with what I'll pretend is their favourite snack.

Coming in at #24 is Wolverine. Say that name and I picture Hugh Jackman. Since he’s Australian, I imagine his preferred nosh would be a few Tim Tams - a chocolate cream filling between two chocolate cookies covered in chocolate.

Aquaman, at #20, controls the force of the earth’s oceans and every living thing in them. So would he eat fish - his friends and co-workers? Probably not. I’ll give him a nice juicy steak, hand-cut fries, and a large, frosty beer.

At #17 is Wonder Woman. I don’t care how strong she is, she’s a woman and she needs chocolate after a long day of fighting crime. I bet she’d love a slice of the chocolate-hazelnut tart I baked last week. Or maybe Wolverine would share his Tim Tams.

Flash sits at #12. This man is all about speed so you might think he would appreciate fast food. Not so. He prefers slow-braised stew, slow bbq’d ribs, and slow simmered bolognaise.

Last, but not least, Superman holds the #6 position. This man of steel might be all business while wearing the tights and cape, but when he’s in disguise as a reporter, he eats like a reporter – fast and on the go. I bet his favourite sandwich is a corned beef brisket on rye, and he keeps his travel mug (reusable to protect the environment, of course) topped up with a dark roast coffee.

Now, if I were a superhero, one of my superpowers would be flight. I’d swoop and soar up with the eagles – keeping my mouth shut, otherwise I’d be spitting out bugs. After defeating a villain or two, I’d settle in my nest and enjoy hot spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips, the multi-grain variety, and a slightly chilled glass of lager.

What superpower would you have? And what would be your snack food of choice?

Luanna Stewart has been creating adventures for her imaginary friends since childhood. She spends her days writing spicy romantic suspense, paranormal romance, and historical romance. When not torturing her heroes and heroines, she’s in her kitchen baking something delicious. She lives in Nova Scotia with her patient husband and two spoiled cats.

What a fun filled post to start a new month! So curious as to #1 but not enough to look it up - lol.
My super power would be tele-transportation...in the blink of an eye, I'd be wherever I wanted to be. No standing in security lines or being squished in airplane seats, hours driving freeways, etc. And if I wanted to see a National Park or Historical Monument along the way, I'd just stop off. And because I'm a Super Heroine I have no dietary restrictions therefore I'd join Superman with his corned beef brisket on rye or a full-out Reuben; sweet potato fries and I'd top it off with Baskin and Robbins Jamoca ice cream or maybe their peppermint. And if I was thirsty? I'd fill my four reusable water bottles from an icy spring of clear, clean water. Well, maybe I'd fill something larger so I wasn't needing to pop over to the spring every day...but since I can be there in the blink of an eye maybe not.

Fun post, Luanna! I would be able to heal people by manipulating their energy. It would be so cool to take away someone's chronic pain or help them recover from a mental illness! I would be able to cure my own digestive issues, so I could enjoy lasagna with garlic and onions in the sauce and garlic breadsticks, cheese enchiladas with refried beans and rice, blueberry pie - I'd savor every taste and texture. And healing uses a LOT of energy, so no worries about calories, of course!

Imelda the Goddess of Clean Air, daughter of Mother Earth. For some reason this name popped into my head and when I looked it up, Imelda is of Italian origin and means "all-consuming fight." And she is a real goddess (didn't get far enough in my research on real heroine duties, as I am making up my own). She would be fighting hand-in-hand with other Goddesses (her sisters) on all aspects of keeping our earth healthy. But specifically cleaning up all the allergens and pollutants that cause people sickness. For favorite heroine-fighting snacks? Hmmmm...something spicy, like sweet and spicy jalapeno poppers. Just found this recipe at https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/sweet-spicy-jalapeno-poppers/
And it has all the things in it that I probably shouldn't eat (bacon, cheese and jalapenos - which I love, but can no longer tolerate :-( ). And a nice dark and spicy beer sounds good to go with the snack, Onward Imelda!

Judith, I love your super power! That's one of the reasons why I chose flight - no traffic jams for me! And I love your snacks, particularly the ice cream.

Sarah - a most noble super power. All those yummy foods - I get a tummy ache just thinking about them. Oh, to have the guts of a young woman again.

Deb N - jalapeno poppers would kill me. I'd enjoy every bite, though, especially washed down with mug of cool ale. I love your goddess and her made-up duties/powers, particularly since she would rid me of these seasonal sniffles!
