If you have a mother, this weekend is her special day! If you are a mother, or grandmother, it is your special weekend too!
Last year was the first Mother’s Day that my Sister, Brother and I celebrated Mother’s Day without a mother.
My sister and I decided to celebrate our daughters in remembrance of our Mother. It uplifted us to celebrate them and each other.
We have continued this tradition this year too!
I choose an item that is personal to my daughters and daughter-in-law. Last year it was silk pillowcases. They were all surprised and loved it! Oh, and my nephew’s wife I bought a travel mug for, she has four children and is also, a terrific mother!
This year I had a hard time deciding what to get. Hmmm? Well, with all the handwashing and sanitizer what better to get than hand cream sets! I bought sets that have 8 tubes or so that are small enough to carry in their purses! Two have arrived and the daughters love them!

Have a safe and sane weekend, whether or not you celebrate Mother’s Day!

Great idea, Diana. When a bunch of people lived here, it was a day when I didn't have to cook, clean, etc. These days, I get phone calls from my grands and great grands and my dil bought me a beautiful fuchsia, my son gave me some $$ to do something nice for myself. As he's blind, shopping is not something he can get out and do- I always appreciate a little cash.
Drip system in my yard is being turned on today and that is a great gift as with the warmer weather all the plants in pots need watering. Hauling hose or hefting watering cans is hard on my hands and I usually forget to put on a back brace so...while not a gift from family, it is my Mother's Day Gift to me...
Hi Diana,
It's definitely different celebrating Mother's day now Mum isn't here. But I like to think she has passed the batton on to me. I try to do what she did to make it a special family day. This year I will cook a roast dinner and my kids will call for a video chat. Next year I'm looking forward to us all being at the table together on Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day Diana.
Judith,
Thanks for stopping by! so good your Grands can video chat with you.
Dora,
Nice you are having a roast dinner. I love Video chat too! Isn't it nice ? I love it to connect with my kids too and grands.
Diana, What a great idea. My mother passed away in 2007 and I do not have children, but I do have a niece and nephew that I consider like my own children. I also have one sister that doesn't have children either, so I could do that with her. So, like I said, great idea. Thanks much.
Diana, shopping online for mugs for all the Moms in the family was a great distraction from moments when grief ambushed me this week! You are so thoughtful! I give you full credit for coming up with this idea!
Diana, When my mom passed 30 years ago, I celebrated my mother-in-law and my children. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about how proud my mom would be of her grandchildren and wish she could have seen them grow up. That is why I celebrate them. You picked a great way to celebrate your mom.

I always sent my aunt mother's day cards, since she never had children of her own. Even though I rarely saw her, she was like my second mom. I do celebrate all the women in my life, daughters, DILs, etc. on mother's day. And my husband always had his birthday on mother's day, so many times it was a combined celebration> Never did like that idea, but lo and behold, here I am planning a surprise 70th virtual party for him tomorrow, with his brother, good friends and kids. The only one who will be here in person is my son and grandson. His birthday is Monday, but both kids are working form home, so we planned it for tomorrow. But we'll have fun. Then we're off to visit my mom - by waving happy mom's day through the window, since she is in assisted living and we can't go in and visit.
Peggy,
Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you like the idea!
Sarah, love you sister!
Paty, I celebrated my Mother-in-law too, a really sweet lady I love so much. She passed four years ago.
Deb, your combined birthday and Mothers Day celebration sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate.
