Christmas in Swan Harbor with Sophie Bartow

Happy Holidays!

If you are like me, there have been many times this year when you’ve wished you could go to bed and get up on the other side…and the world would have returned to normal.

This is one of the many reasons I created the town of Swan Harbor, Maine. I wanted a place with small-town charm, characters who were smart, funny, lovable, and complex. A place where the mysteries might be cozy or chaotic and where there’s always a happy beginning. In other words, a place where we can escape and fall in love.

Since I’m such a visual person, my goal is to paint a picture for my readers. My Pinterest page has storyboards with my vision of the characters, locations used, and teasers. And Giennie Flanagan, Swan Harbor’s realtor has provided a nice welcome video of the town.

Welcome to Swan Harbor

My Christmas release, A Tree, Mistletoe & A Sunset, is Book 7 of my Stories from Swan Harbor series. While the book stands alone and features the romance of Harper Patterson and Aiden Jones, it also swirls around characters introduced in previous books. Sally Patterson, Harper’s aunt and owner of Sally’s Diner, was first introduced in Welcome to Swan Harbor, a novella. And Aiden’s family is also involved in several ways. One cousin, Liam Reade, is getting married. Killian Reade, another cousin, is tracking down the underwear thieves. And there’s a mystery involving Jonesy, the white swan, who some believe is connected to the town’s hope.

That's My Bra!

Harper Taylor returns to Swan Harbor with a broken heart. Teaching at the local university and participating in a secret match research project help her begin to heal. But her heart's unexpected response to a fellow professor has her believing she's been led home for a reason.

Aiden Jones may have randomly chosen Swan Harbor University, but once he arrives, he discovers both a long-lost family and a tie to a local mystery. However, it is his connection with Harper that gives him the confidence to fight for what he wants.

~~~SH~~~
Join Harper, Aiden, and the rest of Swan Harbor --- they know how to celebrate the holidays! And nothing says Merry Christmas like the tree lighting ceremony in the town square. But when an unorthodox thief gives the residents a big surprise, it leaves them holding on to their skivvies...literally.
About the Author:
I am a married mother of four who has spent the last 30+ years as a Speech/Language Pathologist working with adult post-stroke patients.
Now that my youngest (twin girls) are freshmen in college, I’ve set out on a new journey. I love books that have complex characters, romance, and a touch of mystery and strive to include those in all my stories.
So, grab a chair and come meet my friends in Swan Harbor, Maine. I hope they’ll become your friends too.
Sounds like an intriguing read. Can't wait to curl up with this book. Do I hear Hallmark?
Marcia, I agree with the Hallmark question - their Hallmark Mysteries Channel since Sophie includes a bit of mystery in her books. I love the idea of a swan as they mate for life - very fitting for the stories set in Swan Harbor.
I’m dreaming of Netflix or a lifetime movie. That would be perfect
I can't wait to pick up this book, Sophie. I'm also a Maine author (w/a Delsora Lowe,) and have a novella series set in Serenity Harbor (Bar Harbor area.) So welcome to RTG. We have a great Maine Romance Writers group and authors from all over the state and afar (other states.) Right now we are meeting virtually. I do love a Christmas story, especially one set in Maine, so heading over to buy right now :-)
I'm intrigued with your work with adult stroke patients. Thank you for all the years you spent helping them. It is such incremental work and I imagine some patients are very frustrated in doing it. It is a beautiful skill and commitment to helping that I appreciate.
Your Swan Harbor books sound wonderful and Maine is such a beautiful place to use for small town romances. It sounds like you are well down the track for these characters and their rich lives.I agree with others this sounds like a Hallmark movie or even a series as you have so many books. You should consider submitting it via their platform.
Being a SLP has been rewarding (and still is as I do virtual therapy) but after 33 years, I’m ready for a new challenge. However, I’ve written strokes and stuttering into my works.
Hallmark was always my goal but according to Terri Wilson, my stories are too complex and too many characters. Netflix, ala Virgin River, would be cool.
I actually was going to set the series in Florida but then a frozen pond and snow showed up so..
Hope you enjoy the Christmas book. You’ll see Swan Harbor is an interesting place.
