The Most Readable Time of The Year!

By Marcia King-Gamble

www.lovemarcia.com

So, here we are with Halloween behind us and the holiday frenzy already in full swing.  There are friends who put up their Christmas tree the moment the Halloween decorations come down. Not me. I am not that inclined.  I want to savor and enjoy Thanksgiving in all of its grandeur.

What the approaching holiday season makes me want to do, is read, read, read.  Most books released at this time of year are feel good books. And I can’t think of a better way to put myself in the holiday spirit, given the events this year than to read!

On my Kindle, right now waiting to be read, is Christmas Comes to Dickens; https://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Comes-Dickens-Romance-Anthology-ebook/dp/B08JQPSK3G,  an anthology by ten very talented authors from my other blog group. Don’t you just love that title?  Makes you think of snow, Christmas carols and a little boy called Tiny Tim.

By now, I had hoped to have my own holiday novella wrapped up, but it was not to be. You know the best laid plans of mice and men go awry when this season approaches.  What I can tell you is that my title, By Golly has the colorful H. E. Caldwell characters creating a Pop-up store in New York City, and it's not all hard work and fun.

I love the holidays, and over the years I’ve written several stories set during this hopeful season. One of my personal favorites is titled, His Call. It was written eight years ago, and set in The Big Apple where I grew up.  It is the tale of single parent, Krista Miller who moonlights as a sex phone operator, until she can get her catering business off the ground. Along comes a very special client who doesn’t think very highly of Krista or her evening job.

Another favorite is the Holiday Sparkle Series. https://www.amazon.com/Holiday-Sparkle-bundle-Special-Change-ebook/dp/B06X6BYMFQ . These four stories are set around an incredibly special red dress. This was a collaboration with talented author Bettye Griffin. The magic of the Internet has four women in different parts of the country rent the identical red formal dress to attend holiday functions. There is a wedding over the Thanksgiving weekend, a holiday party for corporate executives, a Christmas charity ball, and a New Year's Eve celebration. Each woman finds romance while wearing this dress. It’s pure fun to follow the red dress as it is shipped to Chicago (Love on Lake Shore Drive), New York (Naughty in New York), Houston (Holiday in Houston), and Las Vegas (Loose in Las Vegas), bringing magic and marvel to each of these women!

We so enjoyed writing these stories that the very next holiday season, Bettye and I collaborated again. This time on Rockin’ the Rockies. These are two novellas packaged as one and set in the Mile-High City of Denver and exclusive Aspen.  https://www.amazon.com/Rockin-Rockies-Holiday-Sparkle-Novellas-ebook/dp/B078MPXCF7

Livingston Cox, heir to the L&L Markets grocery chain, rents a date, Sari for a holiday charity event. Dante Martinez, manager of Livingston’s best-performing store, attends the event with business associate and friend, Bethany. The couples switch partners. But both Sari and Bethany have secrets. Can they keep these secrets from their respective men?

Last Year, I wrote Ring in the Holidays.

https://www.amazon.com/Ring-Holidays-Marcia-King-Gamble-ebook/dp/B07MKQQX5D,   a novella in The Ring series. Can you imagine a holiday season when your friends  are all 'booed up,” and you’re the only single one left of your crowd and facing a dreary holiday ahead? Then along comes your childhood nemesis, bad boy, Stefie Davis? Stefan has grown into a knee-buckling kinda guy. He's an investment banker with a continental lifestyle and he's bound and determined to win Rianna’s heart. But will she let him?

By Design, a full-length novel set in Philadelphia at Christmas, has Elle Stanford, once a rising star at her marketing firm forced to find something at year end.  Reluctantly, she accepts a sales associate's position at H. E. Caldwell's, a high-end black owned store in Philadelphia and there she runs into Miles Bradshaw, a man she mistakenly takes for a customer.

https://www.amazon.com/Design-Store-Book-1-ebook/dp/B078K5JPRS

By Design inspired the novella By Heart

https://www.amazon.com/Heart-H-Caldwells-Book-ebook/dp/B08CRC78W1 and spawned the idea for By Golly.

This season, H. E. Caldwell's is about to go international and everyone wants in. A new Pop up store is created in New York City and new executives are hired, But it's no season of peace and joy, because there's inner fighting and even the established couples are at odds. Can this magical season reunite them? Look for By Golly on Amazon in December.

As you can see, there's a lot of reading material to choose from,   Have a Happy Thanksgiving all!

Wow! What a list of books. I find the holidays usually so busy that I actually don't read as much as I do at other times of the year. I think also with so many holiday specials on TV that I get overwhelmed. That said, when I do read holiday stories they tend to be anthologies or short novellas so I can get through an entire story quickly just before falling asleep.

Maggie, I keep a stack of books on my nightstand. They are usually feel good books. Nothing like sipping on a glass of wine and going through the holiday collection. Puts me in the nood.
