Images of Freedom

Freedom means many things to many people.

FINANCIAL FREEDOM

"Surrender to the freedom of forgiveness. Forgiveness may cost you your pride, but not forgiving them will cost you your freedom." ~ Unknown

As the great Janis Joplin sang in the song, Bobby Magee,
"FREEDOM'S JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR 'NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE..."

The more we connect with and care about other people, the Earth, our Higher Power, etc., the more we choose to curtail our personal freedoms. We always have the freedom to choose. ~Sarah

Sarah, as usual a short but very insightful post. I agree that whenever we choose to connect with anything outside ourself--family, friends, marriage, school, the earth, God--we are making a choice to allow those people/events to influence/curtail what we might want to do for ourselves alone. And that does make us less free in one way (e.g., we give up some selfishness). But to my mind, it makes me more free in other ways. That is free to learn and become more than I am alone.

I also remember that line from Bobby Magee "Freedom's just another word for 'nothing left to lose." Probably when I heard it as a young woman I had no idea what that meant. It was a catchy tune sung by Janis Joplin in the raspy, achy voice. It really is a commentary on the choice to not be tied down to anyone or anything (Freedom), and always be looking for something down the road to fulfill that deep need that can't be fulfilled except to be committed to something, someone in life.

Great post!

Thank you, Maggie! Your comments support the points I was trying to make. It's nice to be 'heard'!
