I have to get to Pakistan. Don't ask why, I have been watching Ms. Marvel. The writers have done what any good story should, made me fall in love with a family and their issues. And as I watched daughter, mother, grandmother and even great grandmother dealing with a multi-generational trauma, I was taken to the Indian sub continenet, and fell in love there too.
I expected Ms.Marvel to be a teen story. I decided to watch it, but to not be upset if it was not my cup of tea. (I'm supposed to be a writer, you would think I could come up with something beter than cup of tea.) At first I thought I was right, that initial episode was a total teen drama that just made me feel old.
Then the writers got to the deeper story. Two weeks ago they took me to the Pakistan of today. From the super crowded airport (and I honestly thought O'Hare Airport was a nightmare) to roads were lane lies and traffic signals were literal suggestions, to stately, beautiful homes, bright colors, and a market full of vendors lying in wait for an unwary tourist. The sights, sounds, smells, and the vendor who grossly overcharged the young heroine for a picture, then cheerfully gave her directions to the train stations, Left, and then left, and left, then right, a little it right, and then around the donkey cart. And, somehow, those instructions worked and she found her destination.
And the food! She was apparently not a spicy food afficionado, and I could tell by her face that everything she ate was more tasty than the meal before. By the time she got to the real Chinese food, the kind Americans had no whitewashed, my mouth watered.
Unfortunatly, there are major travel problems in that part of the world, right now, and it's not just Covid.
You've probably noticed this is a pretty weak post. I planned to write a great post. I mean I've worked on it forever inside my head. It was going to be so awsome.
Except, I hit writer's block. And what was inside my head - still is for that mater, won't come out.
I seriously feel brain dead or something. I've had blocks before, but none of them this complete, I guess that's the right word. Next month i'll do better, I promise,

Actually what I noticed was a fun and entertaining post. I've not watched this program nor have I been to Pakistan or anywhere in that part of the world. From your description, it looks to be a fascinating place. And IMHO having the story in your head whether it makes it on the page or not is better than no story at all. Already looking forward to your August post!
It's okay to be human, B. A. And it was a decent post. I haven't seen any of Ms. Marvel, and now I'm curious. Guess you did your job after all!
Take care,
Lynn
I enjoyed it. I have not been to Pakistan, but to India, as a kid. So, your post took me back to the crazy crows, and noise and colors and scents of spicy food. Well done, despite writer's block.
