Hello! Thanks so much for having me here at the blog!
When Marcia King Gamble invited me to write something here,
she told me I could write about whatever I felt like sharing or promoting, so I
thought I would tell you all a fun story behind the opening scene of my latest
book, HER MAN OF HONOR.
HER MAN OF HONOR is the first book in my new Love Unveiled
series for Harlequin Special Edition. This series follows a group of
girlfriends who work for Veil, a high fashion bridal magazine in New
York City. If you loved the television show The Bold Type or movies like
The Devil Wears Prada or How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, then the
Love Unveiled books are right up your alley!
Back to that scene, though…
At the opening of HER MAN OF HONOR, we see Everly England, Veil’s
bridal advice columnist, at a very low moment. She’s just been left at the
altar at her very public, splashy, glamourous Manhattan wedding. Now she’s
holed up alone in the bathroom of the honeymoon suite at the Plaza Hotel eating
Ritz crackers and squirt cheese from a can. She’s also still wearing her
wedding gown because she can’t manage to get it off all by herself.
This scene was actually inspired by a humorous real-life
thing that happened to me. Back in 2018, I was nominated for my first RITA
Award at the Romance Writers of America conference. I was thrilled to be
nominated and splurged on a fancy designer dress with a fabulous tulle skirt to
wear to the ceremony. Long story short…I did not win that night. It was still
an amazing evening and after the award ceremony, I went out with a big group of
my author friends for champagne. It was quite late when I returned to my room
and my roommate was fast asleep. I didn’t want to wake her up and I was
starving (hours had passed since my editor had treated me to an early dinner
before the ceremony). All we had in the room was a box of Ritz crackers and
squirt cheese. So I took the cheese and crackers and closed myself up in our
bathroom, fully intending to change into my pjs and have a little (big) snack.
Alas, I could not get my fancy dress off. I was stuck in it.
Eventually, I had to go down the hall to a friend’s room and have her get me unzipped.
But first, I sat there on the cool marble floor in my designer dress and ate
the better part of a can of processed cheese. Mid-can, I almost tweeted about
it, because to me, it was a truly funny moment. I thought about taking a
selfie, but then I thought it might get misinterpreted online (doesn’t
everything?!). I could see the comments: OH MY GOSH, TERI WILSON IS TAKING THAT
RITA LOSS REALLY, REALLY HARD. LOOK HOW FAR SHE HAS FALLEN.
And that, right there, is where I got the idea for my next
book series. Isn’t it crazy where the ideas come from sometimes?
HER MAN OF HONOR is available now wherever books are sold!
Aren’t you curious who shows up to rescue Everly off of that bathroom floor?
*wink*

Teri, thanks for spending some time with us here at Romancing The Genres. I love your intro to this series. And finding humor in challenging times is always a plus.
Teri,
I remember that beautiful dress you wore to the Award Ceremony. You were a vision in that stunning gown, and then you were kind enough to photograph my jewelry and add me to your Fashionista blog.
I can't wait to read Man of Honor. I wish there were more men like that around. If you find one in your part of the world, send him my way. lol
Thanks so much, Judith! xoxo
It was fabulous night, wasn't it, Marcia!? And LOL will definitely point him in your direction if spot him. HAHAHA
Oh, I love this story! Having read Her Man of Honor - which is fabulous and I highly recommend - I totally get it. Love hearing how the story was birthed.
