Goals/New Year’s Resolutions

I've been struggling to write this blog, and I'm not certain why. It’s just days before Christmas, and it seems like it should be a Christmas blog, but I feel like I’ve already done that, so instead I'm going to talk about my goals for 2024.

I'm not one for New Year's resolutions. I don't seem to stick to them as well as setting goals for year. In my mind, goals are something I do all year long not just January first which I think tends to make me more successful at achieving them. If I do New Year’s resolutions I put everything off until January first rather than working on what I need to be working on right now. So instead of having a New Year's resolution, I’m setting goals for 2024.

It's been more than a decade since I wrote my first From the Farm to the Table children's book and six years since I wrote book six, From the Farm to the Table Beef. To my surprise, the series is doing very well. I had no plans of writing another book, but with how well the series is doing, I’ve decided to write one in 2024, possibly two!

The first book will be about chickens with a chicken farmer in Central Oregon. The second book I am uncertain about on this point. I'd really like to write one with a Christmas theme, but I can't decide if I want to write about a farmer who raises reindeer or Christmas trees or maybe something else Christmas related. I’m still on the fence about what to write.

Besides the children's books, I'm working on the new suspense series and plan to have the first book ready to send out to readers by the end of January. Next on the list will be the fifth book in the Crooked Halo Christmas Chronicles, and I just came up with an idea for book six that I’d like to finish this year, too.

That is a busy schedule for me, and I'm not sure I can attain all those goals, but I'm definitely up to the challenge.

What about you? What are your goals/resolutions for 2024?

The From the Farm to the Table series is centered around a farmer or farmers and tells the story of the commodity he/she raises. The first book in the series From the Farm to the Table Dairy is a story about quadruplet calves born unassisted on a California dairy. The story is told through the cow guy, Farmer John with photographs and easy-to-read text about life on a dairy farm.

My latest release is Falling in Love With Her.

LEFT AT THE ALTAR, FRIENDS TO LOVERS, BROTHER’S BEST FRIEND, AFRAID TO COMMIT, DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER, ROMANTIC MYSTERY NOT TO BE MISSED!

Ingie

Love, marriage, and a family aren’t in the cards for me after my fiancé left me at the altar. I was so certain he loved me, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. My mother’s words haunt me. “She’s an ugly duckling. She’ll never attract a man. A husband and family aren’t in her future.” Instead of dwelling on the past, I focus on running Three Rivers Fly Shop and Boat Repair, the legacy from my father.

Two years later, Ian Callahan, my brother’s best friend and my childhood heartthrob, returns home. Certain he’ll never see the swan lurking beneath the ugly duckling, the same as when we were teenagers, I protect my heart by insisting on a friends with benefits relationship. The fact is, I don’t need love. I have my work, a persnickety, one-eyed cat, and keeping the Trench Coat Brigade in line—a wacky group of seniors with a penchant for meddling, matchmaking, and mystery-solving.

Ian

After my last relationship crashed and burned, I left my job as an arson investigator and firefighter in Seattle to return home. Ready to settle down, my hometown is the only place I want to put down roots. And the only woman I want to make a life with is Ingie Pulaski. She’s smart, sassy, and fearless, but she wants a causal relationship.

When a building is torched and a body is found, I find myself keeping tabs on the Trench Coat Brigade to ensure they stay out of trouble. But there’s an added benefit to that assignment—I’m spending a lot more time with Ingie. And I’m making it my mission to show her there’s more to our relationship than friends with benefits.

Ingie

I’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places until I meet up with Ian again. Now I have to conquer my deepest fear—abandonment—or lose the only man who loves me just the way I am.

I'd like the Farm to Table book on Reindeer first except the "to Table" part so saying that...Christmas trees. Most people have no idea what goes into growing that "perfect" tree. There's a lot more to it than waiting for them to grow taller.

Nice goals, Kathy. I am just starting to think about mine--I know querying agents on one book is in the cards, and maybe a new project soon....

I also believe in goals for resolutions. I, too, feel they get fulfilled more than a resolution. I love all the projects you are planning. Go! Go! Go! ;)

I agree Judith there is a lot to think about in terms of a Christmas book for children including what the children will be excited about reading which is why I'm still undecided.

Lynn:

I hate querying so wishing you the best of luck and good luck starting the new book.

Thanks Paty and I'm sure it's just a mindset on the resolutions v goals, but I'm for whatever works.
