I don't really have a preference as to what I read in the different seasons (and I do have seasons where I live in Oregon). I guess I'd call me an "impulse reader". I look at my keeper books or on the shelves of my favorite book store (Jan's Paperbacks in Beaverton, OR) and, unless I'm looking for a particular author, a title will catch my attention or maybe the cover. Covers of half-naked people are a definite turnoff so back on the shelf that book goes.

I read the cover blurb to determine something about content because that I'm very picky about. No page turners for me! I will buy a book that is recommended by someone unless any of the above is in evidence. And I no longer believe I Must Finish the book. If I don't like it for whatever reason, it goes into my donation pile. Life's Too Short to spend time on a book that isn't a good fit for me.

Totally agree, Judith - although I do try to support new authors and will try anything that doesn't make me want to hide under my covers and quake. Most of the time, I do finish the book - and I am usually glad I did, because the story took a nice turn. BUT...I have many books that I did not finish. Or books that might not fit the mood of the day, that I eventually go back to.

Wow, every year you have more and more on the TBR pile.
Thanks for sharing. I love Christmas stories. It's always such a time of hope and hopefully good will toward man.

I haven't read many of these but Sarah Morgan's story from last year was charming and interesting and fun: Snowed In For Christmas. As a bonus it takes place in Scotland.

Thank you for so many great suggestions!
I love romance Christmas stories!!

Great list to pick from. I read holiday stories anytime, but more during Christmas than any other time of the year.

Sue - I love Sarah Morgan's books. She usually does a Christmas one every year, or at least she did si in several years running.

Cynthia, as you can tell, I do too, love holiday books. I get a bit carried away - because I have authors I love. And then I want to try new authors, too. And reading them in January and February, when we usually have snow on the ground, seems like the perfect read.

Dari - it seems since I am usually writing my holiday books in the summer, so that reading those books then do get me in the mood. So, any time of the year works, for me, as well. But especially during the colder, snowier months.

Hmm. I started reading a Christmas story this morning. But because it was next on the list for the particular series I'm reading. No, I don't only read Christmas stories at Christmas. Depends on my mood.

As an author, I write my "holiday" books off-season, but I also enjoy reading holiday books all year long.

Happy Holidays!

So many wonderful, cosy, holiday stories! We're certainly spoiled for choice - not a bad thing when it comes to Christmas books. :)

Barb - I do the same thing - if I love a book and want to read the next in the series, it doesn't matter the season of that book. Sometimes, in the sweltering heat of July, it is "cooling" to read a winter-themed book.

Deb N said...

Judy - I do the same thing on writing books in the summer that have a cool/cold weather theme. But for some reason, just this week, I mapped out a story that originally was a summer-themed book, but it may wind up being a holiday book. Who knows? My mind works in strange ways, so I never know where a story might go.

PS - I love your Dickens' books.

Luanna - I really need to learn to close my eyes and never open BookBub emails, etc., because I can't resist reading these holiday stories. BUT I also can't stop myself from opening the emails that advertise these books, especially from my many favorite authors.

Diana - enjoy the books you choose. And if you have recommendations for me, feel free to add the titles in the comments. Not that I need to add to my list :-)
