Self-Confessed Winter Fanatic by Kathy Coatney

Winter is a season of recovery and preparation, Paul Therox. I saw this post on Facebook and thought it fit me perfectly because I'm just a winter fanatic. As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, I love

winter, I love snow, cross-country skiing, the absolute quiet, and the pristine white from new fallen snow.

I spent most of my life in Northern California where the summers were brutally hot and triple digit temperatures were common, so moving to Central Oregon where the summers were mild with temperatures in the mid to high 80s was a dream come true. I could stand in the shade and it was comfortably cool—so were the evenings.

The trade-off of course is the winters are much colder. We typically get several inches of snow, and our first winter here we called it the snowmageddon winter because we got 60 inches of snow. I absolutely loved it, especially the skiing, so that was another plus for me.

The one thing I dislike about the winters here are the snow packed roads, but I’ve learned to drive them. I still don’t love it, and I'm still pretty cautious. I imagine people that have been here longer scoff at me and probably hate driving behind me, but I don't care. I drive at a speed I feel comfortable and safe.

Here in Central Oregon we don't generally have heavy, wet snow. It’s fluffy and light, so it's almost impossible to make a snowball or snowman because it falls apart, but it's easy to shovel unless it’s shoveled off the roof. Then it turns to solid concrete. Another plus to Central Oregon is a majority of our days are sunshine. It can even snow when the sun is shining. Frequently, snow comes during the night and the sun will be shining in the morning.

Winter is also my favorite time to write when I’m all cozy and comfy sitting in front of a fire writing a new book. If you've read my books, you'll

see the majority of them center in wintertime for the simple fact that I love this time of year. I don't really do beach reads although I have nothing against them, and I actually enjoy them.

Our most recent storm in January dumped about 35 inches of snow at our house so we have snow packed roads for the foreseeable future and temperatures in single and negative digits. But even so, it's peaceful and quiet when I’m watching the snow falling. There’s something very Zen about it for me. What about you do you love or hate winter?

The first book I wrote that had a winter theme was Falling For You…Again, book 1 in the Falling in Love series.

AN EMOTIONALLY RAW SOUL MATES, REDEMPTION, EMOTIONAL SCARS, LOSS OF A CHILD, RICH V POOR, ROMANCE.

A compelling read giving detailed, realistic characters that you grow to identify with and love.

I absolutely love this book and I know I’ll read it again”

Life knocked her down, but she came up swinging.

When a small town teacher and a big city photographer meet, it’s love at first sight—until tragedy shatters their fairytale romance.

It was a choice no father should ever have to make—save one child and the other dies. And Ethan can never forgive himself for making that choice. He loves his wife, Clare, beyond reason, but his guilt has put a wedge between them.

Two years have passed and Ethan and Clare’s marriage is on life support. When Clare leaves on a photo shoot into the mountains and doesn’t return, Ethan focuses on what really matters: his wife, and the love he never meant to lose. With a blizzard looming, he will risk everything, even his live, for a second chance at love.

Get your copy now because a second chance at love is always worth fighting for.

Kathy, I prefer winter to summer although I'm not sure I'm a Winter Fanatic. I'm thankfully as retired as I want to be because my car is covered in ice as is my driveway. My intrepid days are over is true and yet bittersweet. When I lived in Klamath Falls for two years, I loved winter! Although I didn't ski, etc., the snow was fairly easy to shovel and I was 50 years younger!

Nice summary of the delights of winter, Kathy! I think winter is beautiful, but I hate driving on icy roads.

I do love the peace and quiet of winter. I hate heat. But truthfully, I only like winter when the sun is shining. I don't mind the layer of snow. Unfortunately, I have never been a winter sports person.

Kathy,
I read 'Falling for you . . . Again", excellent story. Drew me in right from the beginning, and the suspense was well written'
I don't mind the snow I do mind the 0-20's temps. I could take a walk in the snow when we lived in OR and when it rains here in CA, I sit in our sun room and read.
Enjoyed your post!

I guess I am a season fanatic. For me, there is something to live in every season. For winter, I love the slowed pace. A warm fire, snuggly afghan, something cooking slowly in the oven, listening to a book and working on a craft- my perfect winter day!

Totally with you on the driving. I'm okay with packed snow, but don't love it. Ice not at all.

I'm with you on the heat. We are fortunate here in Central Oregon that we get tons of sunshine even in the winter.

So glad you enjoyed Falling for You...Again. I don't mind cold temps as long as I'm dressed for them, but below zero I don't like. I will take snow over rain any day especially when the rain comes after snow. I hate that!
