National Random Acts of Kindness Week
By Kathy Coatney
Today starts the national random acts of kindness the week to encourage people to put kindness first and share it everywhere they go. I love this week because everyone has a bad day, week or even a month where they need a little extra kindness. I would love to be the one to share an unexpected gift of kindness to them this week or anytime actually.
The goal of Random Act of Kindness Week is to improve schools, the workplace, families, and society through kindness. As I said in my last blog I love winter, but for others the weather makes bad times worse. So why not do something nice for the person behind you at the coffee shop or grocery store? I love paying if forward or offering assistance, anything that would brighten someone’s day and most likely your own. And many times I’ve seen that person pay if forward for the next person. I love it when that happens!
Being kind offers benefits for giver, too, and psychiatrists say being kind:
· Fuels personal energy and self-esteem
· Makes you happier
· It’s good for your heart
· Helps you live longer
· Decreases the harmful chemicals in your body
The creators of national random acts of kindness suggests these ideas for sharing kindness:
· Feed a stranger’s Meter
· When driving, allow someone into your lane
· Share a book
· Buy a coffee for the person ahead or behind you in line
· Make a donation in someone's name
· Leave double the normal tip
· Shovel a neighbor's walkway
· Compliment the first three people you talk to today
· Send a positive text message to five different people right now
· Post inspirational sticky notes around your neighborhood, office, school, etc.
· Say hi to the person next to you on the elevator
· Leave a gas gift card at a gas pump
· Encounter someone in customer service who is especially kind? Take an extra five minutes to tell their manager
· Place a positive body image notes in jean pockets at a department store
· Smile at five strangers
· Write a positive comment on your favorite blog, website, or a friend’s social media account
· Write your partner a list of things you love about them
· Purchase extra dog or cat food and bring it to an animal shelter
· When you hear that discouraging voice in your head, tell yourself something positive—you deserve kindness too!
Do you have anything you’d add to the list? I love this week so much, I’m going to include a random act of kindness in a future book.
I had a BookBub the first of February and I’ve decided to leave the book free everywhere so if you’re looking to cozy up with a good book check out Forever His.

I’m home and hearth. He’s a superstar baseball player.
I’ve always loved Sam Parker. He was warm sunshine, laughter and passion, and in his arms, I dreamed of white picket fences and happily-ever-afters. But our dreams didn’t jive. Sam had aspirations beyond running a farm. I always blamed him for leaving me, but the truth is, I was terrified of being the fish out of water if I followed him.
Sam’s dad, Joe Parker, became my surrogate father in the decade since Sam left Hope’s Crossing. Joe’s the only family I have, and I just learned he has leukemia. I’ll do whatever it takes to save him.
My work is cut out for me because these two men are as hardheaded as a pair of Billy goats. They can’t agree on anything and haven’t talked since Sam chose baseball over farming. Sam’s retired, so there’s no reason he can’t come home. But getting these two stubborn men to find common ground might be my biggest challenge yet. I’ve got to save Joe, even if it means facing Sam again after all this time.

Kathy, while I love Random Acts of Kindness Week as I read the list of suggestions, I found I do some of them often and others every now and then. Love the list so I can add in a few others to expand my repertoire! Thanks also for including the health benefits!

Judith that is how I felt about the list, too, and I'm going to keep it and add to it over the year.
