Terri's in the House

Okay, that was lame. =)

Hi! Welcome to my first post. I’m so happy to see you. My name is Terri Molina and I would be the shy one of the group. (yeah I hear your guffaws and see the eye rolls…but it’s true.)

I’m really excited to be a part of Romancing the Genres, Judith and Sarah have done an awesome job with the place and I’m looking forward to interacting with you all each month.

A bit about me, cuz that’s why you’re here, right? ;-) I’m a mix of Mexican (my mother) and Honduran (my father) and I’m originally from SE Texas--and here's a trivia question for you-- my town’s claim to fame is it’s the hometown of Janis Joplin (and for you sports fans, former Dallas Cowboy head coach, Jimmy Johnson)--can you name the town? Anyway, I grew up with six brothers and sisters and a town full of aunts, uncles and cousins…who are the inspirations for my books. I write a variety of sub-genres, from contemporary to suspense to mainstream…sometimes they’ll even contains elements of the supernatural. The common link in my stories is that they each take place in Texas, mostly the Rio Grande Valley because my main characters are Hispanic.

After I graduated high school I lived a bit of a nomadic life, moving to various states/towns before returning back to Texas, then I met my husband, a Coast Guard Petty Officer, and did the nomadic life again for ten years. Although I didn’t really mind because I got to be a stay-at-home mom to our four children. We thought we had settled down in Texas when he retired but his new job moved us to southeast Arizona and we’re enjoying the wonderful weather and great hair-days!

So, that’s kinda me in a nutshell. If you’d like to know more, feel free to drop by my website. You can also find me at my blog Behind Brown Eyes.

Welcome, Terri and thanks for the kind words. Sarah and I have enjoyed almost every minute of it.
I really don't know the answer to your question about your hometown because I was never a Janis Joplin fan and although I was into sports, not to the point where I knew birthplaces.
And the answer is?

I'll have to whisper it to you, in case someone else wants to chime in. ;-)
The place looks great, btw!

Since I live in South Louisiana, I know this!! Port Arthur, Texas!!
Listened to Janis Joplin when I was younger, and since we have the Saints now the Dallas Cowboys are my second favorite team:)

Great post, thanks and good luck to everyone on the blog.

Great post, Terri! Thanks for the compliment on RTG. :)

My husband and I thought we'd settled in Iowa, but after 21 years he was transferred to Oregon. You never know what life will bring!

I love books like yours that showcase the regional richness of the United States. I'm looking forward to reading them!

Thank you, Sarah. And, thanks for fixing my links. ;-)

I wonder if Coast Guard husbands are the best or if you and Sarah found only two good guys.

Sounds like you have plenty of people to base characters on! Your website is great, by the way!

Terri's on my laptop! :)

I am a Janis fan, and I thought I'd at least recognize her hometown when someone else called it out ... but nope. Port Arthur oesn't ring a bell. (I'm impressed, Judy!)

Big families provide never-ending inspiration for stories, don't they?

When I was in high school, I loved the Portland Rose Parade. The US Navy was in town with ships, ships, ships - Bell bottom trousers, coat of Navy blue and all that.

Especially now, our military men and women are doing a great job so that we can concentrate on our writing and blogging.
