Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays because it means I get flowers. Yes, I know, it's about telling someone else how much you love them, how much they mean to you. Granted, we should all tell the important people in our lives more than once a year that we care but it's nice there is a special day set aside just for those who need that extra nudge.

It's also a great opening for people who would like to declare their feelings and haven't found a way to do it. An official day for love is just what the emotions doctor ordered! And it's a terrific hook to open a sweet and spicy VD story too, if you are inclined to set fantasy to page to celebrate the day!

Which is what I'm trying to do this week, write a VD short story. It's a bit difficult to make the time while getting tax forms and royalties out for the end of the year but since I have put aside 2012 as THE YEAR TO WRITE I want to get 2012 off on the right foot and that means writing a story.

I had planned on writing in the ROUGH universe I already have out there but a new set of characters keep peeking around the corner at me. I think it is just the thrill of starting a new relationship that is appealing to me as opposed to working with an established couple. I'm not sure. I'll admit to being influenced by the return of WHITE COLLAR on USA. I love the dynamic between Neal and Peter and I'd love to make a couple based on them. Original characters but with that same push and pull relationship.

I'll have to sit and stare at the monitor a bit and see which set of guys talks to me first! Either way I'm sure the story will involve Valentine's Day, flowers (because I love fresh flowers!) and hot romance.

Hi, Laura,

I agree with you, it is nice to have an "extra special day" for love and romance. Today is a snow day in the high desert of Oregon. I have my coffee, my view of the snow and I am trying to stick to my goal of completing my novel by Valentines Day. Good luck yours and Happy Writing.

Hi Laura,
Isn't is exciting when those couples hunt you down and say, "Tell our story!" What a wonderful Valentine's gift for you.

I hope your story flows and your characters take you on a thrilling ride. I look forward to reading it.

I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have characters show up, whisper their story in my ear, act out scenes in my dreams, and grumble when I go off in the 'wrong' direction. But there are those days when I sit and stare at the monitor until the words start...I think that is part of the writing process (at least mine). Fresh flowers? Of course! If someone doesn't get them for me, I do it myself.

I'm working on a VD short story, too, for Romance From The Genre-istas, our sister-site that launches in time for Valentine's Day. We're all writing a flash fiction piece in our chosen sub-genres.

I agree that a couple based on the relationship between Neal and Peter from White Collar would be dynamite!

Good luck with your story!

I enjoy fresh flowers, especially in February when everything is still drab outside.
