A soggy wedding…

Once upon a time, thirty-something years ago, the day of my wedding dawned…tipping down rain. Not just a gentle shower, not merely the too-common drizzle we get here in coastal Nova Scotia.

No, I’m talking torrents, floods, monsoon. For the entire day.

I went off to have my hair “done” and needed to wear one of those disposable plastic rain hats in order to protect my “do”. So glamorous.

I wore my old sneakers to make the journey to the chapel. One of my bridesmaids took similar precautions and we changed into our fancy shoes in the chapel vestibule amongst piles of damp umbrellas.

Of course the rain fell after the ceremony as well and so I departed the chapel, a newly minted Mrs., without my snazzy hat or my satin shoes with lace bows. The well wishers remained indoors where it was dry but my brother and the best man risked drowning to assist the newlyweds.

I lost count of the number of times I heard that a rainy wedding day meant a long and loving marriage.

But it was true.

If you’ve taken the plunge, what was your wedding weather?

My newest book, to be launched on June 26th (yippee!) contains a super cute “day before the wedding jitters” scene. Love Proof is available for preorder now!

Unemployed photojournalist Raynor Elliot stops at a bakery near the famous Deerbourne Inn. Not only does he get a lead on a job but the bakery’s owner is that awkward kid he knew in high school, only now she has fabulous curves and an irreverent sense of humor. The cozy bakery, with its aroma of sugar, vanilla and spice, has more to offer than tasty cookies.

Fiona MacLeod has been plagued for years by the need to make amends for telling The Big Lie. When the lie’s victim strolls into her bakery with his icy blue stare and killer charm, she feels like she’s standing too close to a hot oven.

Between running her bakery and frosting cupcakes for the Mad River Garden Party, she's pretty sure she's falling in love with this infuriating, sexy man. Can Fiona dredge up the courage to confess, face the consequences, and hope for forgiveness?

Luanna, all I can say is "Wow" and you have pictures too! I've none as we eloped on October 10th 1962. It was a beautiful fall day so the antithesis of yours as we had not a drop of rain.

Our wedding was at 7pm on a drizzly December night in northern California. Luckily, it did not pour buckets. We've been married 47 years.

Loved the blurb and cover for your upcoming release, Luanna!

Judith, the following days, our honeymoon, had glorious weather - a good thing since we spent part of that time camping in the back country.

Sarah, I consider drizzle to be rain so the prediction holds true, IMO. Thanks for the kudos on my new book!!

What a wonderful story and I REALLY loved the pictures. When you describe your story you didn't say anything like you cried in disappointment. Did you just take it stride and accept it? If so, that may be also why your marriage has lasted. You knew what was important. Not that the day was perfect, but that groom was the right one for you.

Love your story, Lu. And you looked beautiful and happy, despite the rain. Can't wait to read the Deerbourne Inn book. I've read several from the series and they have all been fun reads! Here's to many more years!!!
