Hello everyone! Sorry I was MIA last month. I got to meet this little princess
Isn't she amazing!
So this month it's all about peace. What a topic! There have been some amazing post this month on peace. Quotes, examples, all the things. And while I've enjoyed them all, it made realize that peace is a little different for everyone.

Need a break... |
While sitting on the beach in the summer is ideal place to find peace for me, I was reminded during my son's visit how violently he hates sand.
For one of my sisters it's cleaning (yeah, I wish this brought me peace). I've called during 'stressful' times and she told me I'll call you back after I finish moping the garage floor! I had to stop and think, did my garage have a floor????
That different things lead us down the path to peace, the same will be true of our characters. Or the characters in books you read. In the beginning of my writing journey, I tried to have all my characters find peace in the same manner I did - you know eat doughnuts, drink vodka, and hang out at the beach.
And guess what???? It didn't work - gasp.
I had to realize that as different as the character were from me their journey to inner peace would be to. That doesn't mean they can't eat doughnuts or visit the beach along the way.
A peaceful walk in the woods OR being a food supply for bugs??? |
So just like I let my sister mop her garage and didn't make my son sit in the sand with my grandbaby, I let my characters determine how peace is achieved.
I'm participating in Camp NANOWRIMO this month, the story I'm working on is a romance horror. (Side note - promo thing - I post daily teasers on my Facebook page - and weekly chapters on my blog )
Cami has what her grandmother calls a 'restless soul'. There are many creepy things (flesh eating worms, strangling vines, etc.) along the way to her peace. It was a stretch to write her. To give her the peace she fought so hard for.

Cute, cute Grandbaby. Holding her and hearing her laugh would be my peace. Finding individual peace is a journey for many.
Good point, Lyncee. And enjoy that grandbaby! :-)
She is amazing!!!
I laughed out loud at your reaxction to your sister mopping her garage floor. I would have had the same reaction!
What you said about characters finding peace in ways that make sense for them is so true. That's the sort of thing that makes them real to the reader.:-)
Thanks everyone! I just wished she loved closer... I'm in Michigan and she's in Texas :-(
Those grands and great grands can be so busy, busy, busy and are also full of love and joy.
Thankfully I don't have a garage but if I did? An occasional as in once or twice a year sweep out might get done depending on the weather, my mood, and whether one could really see their name written in the dust
The beach at sunrise or sunset, sitting by a stream, walking along a shady path through the woods would all be peaceful endeavors for me, But then spoiled it all with "being a food supply for bugs"! That would be me so I'll stick with the beach where mosquitoes don't seem to find me as well as they do in the woods.
Your granddaughter looks very happy in your pic. So wonderful for you to get a chance to meet her. I have a new granddaughter I haven't met yet. Born in April 3,000 miles away. Given the uneven pace of vaccinations, we probably won't get out that way for another year. In the meantime, Zoom and pictures have to suffice.
I agree with you that peace comes in many different ways to different people and being able to capture that is so important in a story. Of course, as in life, often partners (whether romantic or not) find peace in different ways too and not understanding that creates challenges in the relationship. It sounds like you have all that down in your story.
