The question this month is: What is new in 2022?
For me, I'm taking my character Gabriel Hawke back to the wilderness where his series started. It's going to require even more research than normal and I'm up for the challenge! I love research and learning new things. If you always keep an open mind to learning, you will never be bored. At least that's how I feel.
I will be learning about surviving in snow, blizzards, and tracking in the snow. My Fish and Wildlife State Trooper will be caught in the Wallowa Mountains with his girlfriend by a blizzard. When they reach the lodge high up in the Wallowas, they discover the helicopter they had ridden in on horseback for his girlfriend to fly out has been disabled. There is a body in the barn and a faint blood trail leading away from the lodge, where they also discover the radio smashed. Hawke has to decide if he should take his girlfriend off the mountain and return to look for the wounded man or remain on the mountain while the trail is fresh and they are more likely to find him alive. It will be a book of discovery for Hawke in several ways. Should be a good read! ;) When it's written! LOL
Then there will be the third book in the Spotted Pony Casino Mystery series, Double Down. This book will find my character Dela Alvaro as a suspect in a murder. In the book previous to this one, House Edge, an old boyfriend re-appeared in her life. In Double Down, she will discover who really knows her and believes in her when she is accused of murder. Her high school boyfriend, now Tribal Police Officer or the hunky FBI Special Agent who makes her blood boil both in anger and lust. Should be another good read! When it is written and released.
Then the 10th Gabriel Hawke book. This one will also be set out in the wilderness for a good portion of the book. Hawke's sister sends him a cryptic phone message and he heads to the Montana wilderness in search of a sister he hasn't seen in over ten years. That will require lots of research and I'm hoping a trip to Montana. ;)
Throw into this mix, I'll be writing a short story with my characters from the Spotted Pony Casino Mysteries for a murder, thriller, suspense anthology by authors of Windtree Press, an author cooperative. The title for my short story is: "A Body on the 13th Floor." That's as far as that story has been conceived so far.
As for other new things in 2022- My two oldest granddaughters will be graduating from high school in May. I'm happy for them both, but at the same time it makes me feel old. Right now, I am constructing quilts as their graduation gifts.
What exciting do you have planned for 2022?

Hi, Paty! Boy you have a full schedule of writing ahead of you. How nice you are making the girls quilts. They will cherish those forever!
New for 2022: I'm included in the Windtree mystery anthology, my working title is The Case of the Leaping Lords. Mystery writing is a new genre for me, but I'm excited to learn more about it.
On the personal front, we are looking for a used camper van so we can start traveling more.
Happy New Year!
You've got a full schedule, and it sounds like you will have PLENTY to research and learn. Here's hoping we can all do a bit of travel. Where do you hope to go in Montana?
Plenty of challenges ahead for both you and your characters - fun!
Happy New Year, Paty! I am awestruck that you already have the basic ideas and plots for so many stories in advance. I'm excited to see Hawke back in he wilderness. What better way to spend your winter than tromping around the snow and learning new things. ::)
Have a great year.
Always fascinated by how your mind works, Paty. Glad you have the Fish and Wildlife State Trooper to help you sort out the details!
Yeah on oldest granddaughters graduating from high school. What a milestone. I remember both of my granddaughters' graduating and the relief I felt because I was a parenting grandma from when they were small (4 and newborn). They inherited their father's "cutting it close" gene so it wasn't a done deal until the very end.
Diana, I'm excited to read your short story for the anthology. A camper van to travel around in sounds like fun! Happy 2022!
Hi Sue. Yes, my mind spins faster than my fingers can write! LOL. When we visited my cousin by Flathead Lake a few years ago, hubby and I were driving north from Three Forks and along the side of the highway, out in the middle of a lake was an island with a lodge on it. So somewhere between Three Forks and Flathead Lake. And Glacier Park as I think that is where they will end up.
Thaks, Maggie! Yes, stories and ideas for other books come as I am writing the current WIP. That's what makes me write so fast. I want the story I'm working on finished so I can start the new shiny.
Thanks, Luanna!
