Entangled Publishing Executive Publicity Director Misa Ramirez - FALL IN LOVE ONE STORY AT A TIME

MISA RAMIREZ

Change is invigorating.  Moving.  Babies.  New relationships.  Change makes things feel fresh and new, don’t they?  Life gets bigger, your world expands, and suddenly everything is exciting.

In the publishing world, every single day brings change.  New authors acquired, new books releasing, new imprints forming.  It’s a fast-paced world, and one Entangled has embraced since its launch in 2011.

We began with the simple goal of publishing great books while offering authors the best possible royalties.  Now, just two and a half years later, we are 13 imprints strong, our author list includes some of the most talented writers out there, and the team working behind the scenes couldn’t be more dynamic and passionate about what they do.

We live and breathe books, and it shows.

If you’ve never heard of Entangled, now is a great time to discover what so many already have.  We’re making readers fall in love one story at a time.

Novellas

We have a novella for everyone.  With three novella imprints, Flirt, Flaunt, and Ever After (http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/novellas/), as well as imprint specific novellas, there is plenty of opportunity to get your romance fix in a hour.

If you like your romance on the sweeter side, Bliss ( http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/bliss/  ) is for you.  At the heart of each Bliss is family, community, and happiness.  You’ll be wearing a smile and feeling satisfied after spending a few hours with one of our Bliss titles.

Indulgence (http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/indulgence/ )is what we like to call the sexy, sassy older sister of both Bliss and Brazen.  Where do you think they learned everything?  Indulgence was our first category romance imprint, and these stories still resonate with readers like no others.  They feature powerful heroes, passionate romance, and offer the happily ever after we all crave.  They are contemporary romances with fresh twists on the classic tropes.

Into sexier reads?  Try Brazen (http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/brazen/ ).  It’s the naughty little sister of Indulgence.  When you think of Brazen, think of steamy romances by some of the brightest new voices in romance.   They’re seductive.  They’re fast-paced.  They’re sexy.  And yes, in a Brazen, romance often starts in the bedroom.

Like paranormal romance?  Break the rules with Covet (http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/covet/ ).  From Greek gods, to witches, to vampires, we have just the right touch of paranormal to satisfy every craving.  Covets are all set in a contemporary world, but things are never quite what they seem.

Scandalous is your foray into historical romance. (http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/scandalous/)   Just look at the covers of these amazing books!  You’ll be satisfied with the Dukes, Lairds, and Vikings of Scandalous.  They are the original alpha males!!!

Finally, if romantic suspense is your cup of tea and if contemporary alpha males do it for you, then Ignite (http://www.entangledpublishing.com/category/ignite/)  (and the men of Ignite) are must reads.  Suspenseful, hot, page turners…  You won’t be able to put these books down.

Entangled Select and Edge, Embrace and Teen round out our lists.  These print and digital first lines for adult, new adult, and teen readers offer riveting, blockbuster reads you won’t soon forget.

Because Entangled embraces change, we have the offerings we do, we are satisfying readers across the globe, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.   I hope you’ll try some of our books and experience what change reads like.

I think you’ll be satisfied.

And he’ll find out who she is and what she really wants once he uses his power to get inside her head. But Piers has no idea that Roz is immune to his mind-control…or that he is simply a pawn in her dangerous mission for freedom.

Here's to 2013 and a fab year!

Happy New Year!

Did you have a great beginning to 2013? It's summer in NZ so it was nice and hot. I'm holidaying in the Hawke's Bay a small wine growing region on the east coast of the North Island of NZ, about 4 hours drive from where I live.

It a new house just completed, except for the landscaping around the pool, but in this heat we're simply happy to have something to swim in. I'm here for about two weeks and I plan to relax, write and do some walking in the vineyards.

I don't normally make New Year resolutions but I do set myself goals for the year. How else will I know if I've achieved anything when I get to the end of the year? However, life sometimes does get in the way, so I try to make realistic goals.

2012 was a busy year for me. I had 5 books released, the last was my first contemporary romance, THE RELUCTANT WIFE, Entangled Indulgence 20 Dec 2012. It's a book very personal in nature - read it and you'll probably guess why. I can't say too much or it will give the plot away.

She married the wrong man, but has to pretend he’s the right guy…
Abby Taylor walked out on her irresistible husband three years ago. Now she has no choice but to return to Italy to ask him for a favor. To pay for her grandmother’s heart operation she needs his money, but it comes with strings attached.

Conte Dante Lombardi has it all—an Italian villa, a successful family business, and a noble title. But he needs a child to carry on his legacy and time is running out. He also hopes to satisfy the desire Abby rouses in him.

As Abby uncovers why he’s in such a hurry for a child, she falls in love with him again … just as she realizes it might be impossible to keep her end of the deal.

...an intense, passionate rollercoaster of a love story—just perfect!
- USA TODAY bestselling author Natalie Anderson

I hope my historical readers will take a risk on my contemporary and enjoy the change.

2013 is going to be just as busy because I have signed a three book deal with Random House Loveswept for 3 Regency romances (one is already completed) and I have the third Regency in the Invitation to series to complete and another contemporary, The Nanny Trap, to write. I'd also like to do another novella series this year too. Gosh, that sounds a lot. I'm starting to panic already and it's only the 3rd Jan.

I have just written my goals and here they are:

#1 To be healthy – lose weight, get a bit fitter – nothing is as important as your health. Can’t do anything else without it.
#2 To publish 4-5 books this year
#3 To sell my house so I can move to the Hawke’s Bay permanently
#4 To earn enough off my writing to give up the other day job
#5 To have fun and enjoy life with friend and family

I'll let you know how I go at the end of 2013. Doesn't that seem far away and yet 2012 whizzed by.

What are your goals for this year? Feel like sharing?

For the release of The Reluctant Wife, I'm running a contest over at Romance Wrangler - WIN a Kindle Fire or Kindle Touch. Check it out.Closes 15 January 2013 and it's open internationally.

'Tis The Season for a New Adventure

Delilah Marvelle
As a writer who has been in the business for well over fifteen years (that includes my struggles to get published), I have learned that the only way to grow in my career is to look beyond the path I’m on.  I’ve learned this the hard way when I was dropped barely two books into my career by my publisher at the time.  I had to pick myself up and find a new publishing house (which I thankfully did).

At the time when I was dropped by my publisher, for reasons that didn’t have to do with sales but rather the closing of a line, there was no self-publishing to turn to.  If I couldn’t publish with New York, there would be no book on the shelf.

My oh my, how things have changed!   After receiving a less than favorable offer from my publisher in New York, I decided it was time to step back and recognize that I had other options.  And in doing so, I have discovered the joy of leaving New York.  Not only am I now working for myself at a fair wage (by self-publishing), but I’m also working for a smaller publisher who is showing the big five just how it’s done: Entangled Publishing.  I’m thrilled to say that my first Christmas anthology with Entangled launched their new Historical Scandalous line.  It’s exciting to know that I’m part of a new adventure.

After writing for years for the big publishers of New York, I realized, I wanted more freedom, more transparency and enough money to make my business viable.  None of which I was getting.  While I learned a lot of incredible skills from the big publishers, I learned something even more relevant from Entangled.  The idea of team work and keeping everything transparent.  Being able to know every step of the process as it’s happening and having a say in important things like the cover itself (which I never had), is a breath of fresh air.  And I’m breathing in deep, lol.

There were a lot of things outside of my control with the big five New York Publishers.  Not knowing where my books were selling and just getting numbers was mind boggling.  Yet as an author I was expected to accept it.  Not knowing what my cover is going to look like and having no say in what it will look like was as equally boggling.  Yet as an author, I was expected to accept it.  Many times, I felt left out of the process of my own book.  There were times I had no say at all about even my writing.

But it’s a new chapter in my career and I’m enjoying every moment of it.  I hope both writers and readers alike realize that this is very exciting time for the publishing industry.  Writers have more freedom to write and get paid fairly for it and readers have the ability to read the books that the publishing houses refused to publish for years (like Westerns!).  It is OUR time as writers and readers and I’m so excited to be part of it.  I hope you are too!

We asked the authors of Entangled Publishing's holiday anthology what they enjoyed most about contributing to Baby, It's Cold Outside - and we asked them for blurbs of their stories.

Their answers follow, and then our Entangled Holiday Weekend ends with a post by Patricia Rosemoor about her holiday novel, Holiday in Crimson. Enjoy!

The BEST thing about writing for this anthology was tossing around ideas with my fabulous fellow authors, Amy Andrews, Heidi Rice, and Kate Hardy. Writing is such a solitary endeavor and it was an absolute pleasure to have company along the way!

Tis the Season to be Tempted
After the worst year ever, including divorcing her cheating, rock star of a husband, free-spirited Evie Lee rings in the New Year alone, swearing off men forever. With her parent’s upcoming thirtieth wedding anniversary, on New Year’s Day she has no choice but to battle her fear of flying and climb on a plane to travel home.  Things get complicated when her brother’s childhood friend, the perfect man with the perfect life, Wes Campbell, winds up on the same plane. She’s determined to ignore him. He’s determined not to take her seriously.  But when a snowstorm traps them at the airport with no way to finish their commute, his perfect body is tempting her to break her vow and expand her horizons—if only for one hot night!
Wes Campbell is famous for always doing the right thing. His years of sacrifice have earned him an enormously successful business, a divorce, and a past that included resisting his fascination with his best friend’s little sister. After ten years running into Evie Lee again is torture. He’s determined to continue his hands-off attitude. But with only one hotel room left, chivalry demands he offer Evie a place to crash for the night. Unfortunately, he wasn’t counting on the little hellion’s infectious smile, her killer body, and the hint of vulnerability in her eyes. Worst of all, she appears determined to change his mind about her. And, for the first time in his life, Wes is tempted to do the wrong thing…

The best thing about writing this holiday anthology for Entangled (apart from working with my three fab co-authors) has been the complete novelty of a snowy Christmas. You see, in my part of the world, Christmas is very different to log fires and sleigh bells. Here, in Australia, it’s usually stinking hot and we spend all day either indoors with the air-con set to freeze or lolling around the pool trying to stay afloat with three kilos of turkey and a hefty dose of pudding weighing us down!
When I was a kid – well actually even as an adult – my favourite Christmas cards were the ones with snowy scenes. Fields sprinkled with powdery white, gingerbread houses dripping thick coats of snow from the eves, a sleigh being pulled by liveried horses tinkling their away across a frosty frozen lake. Sigh…to a girl from the tropics those scenes could have been set on Mars they were so removed from my life experience. But, as a writer, I get to go to different worlds and it was fun being in that Vermont cabin with the snow bucketing down, drinking eggnog and hearing the crackle and pop of the fire in the hearth.

I shall think of it with fondness as I dive into my pool this Christmas Day!
Tis The Season to be Kissed
Thirty year old Tamara Green unexpectedly finds herself snowed in at her friend’s family cabin in Vermont on NYE. Depressed and freezing, she puts on all the clothes in her bag and tucks into the eggnog to keep warm. When she attacks an intruder with a golf club she has no idea it’s her friend’s younger brother - Sgt Luke Jackson – who’s on his way back home from his second tour of Afghanistan.  Slightly inebriated at nine in the morning Tamara is mortified. But with loosened lips she not only goes on to confess the sad state of her love life and her self-enforced year-long celibacy but strips off most of her clothes as Luke gets the fire going.

Things start to hot up - in more ways than one.  Luke is attracted to the cute little pixie rugged up like an Eskimo who defended his family’s cabin and he’s determined that their NYE shouldn’t go to waste. Perhaps he could steal a NYE kiss? But Tamara has a 10 date rule before she allows such liberties so with 15 hours to go before the ball drops Luke sets out to woo her with a range of dates from a trip to Hawaii to a game of strip scrabble.

And when the clock strikes midnight, Luke and Tamara set off some fireworks of their own!

Kate Hardy
Kate Hardy
I think the best thing about writing a holiday-themed novella had to be liaising with three other authors who are good friends, brainstorming the ideas and planning who was going to do what. It's such fun working as a team. And, as I'm a bit of a Method Author, I also had great fun making the gingerbread from my novella (and my family definitely enjoyed eating it!).

Tis the Season to Kiss Santa
With the help of a sprig of mistletoe and some snow angels, a recently single pastry chef teaches a highly successful and sexy Scrooge the true meaning of the holidays on a snowy Christmas Eve that quickly heats up.

Heidi Rice
Heidi Rice

Easily the best thing about writing Tis the Season to Go Shopping was getting to brainstorm with my three fabulous writing friends Amy Andrews, Aimee Carson and Kate Hardy. We pinged emails back and forth between Oz, the US and the UK coming up with the snowed-in theme together then had a ball trying out story ideas, thinking up titles and then pitching it to Entangled. And the icing on the cake? Reading the other stories in the anthology and getting that lovely sexy, seasonal, snowed-in feeling in August! I am so ahead-of-the-game with Christmas this year now. That said, I haven't done my Christmas shopping yet. Ironic, huh?

Tis the Season to Go Shopping

Unlucky-in-love department store marketing manager Kate Braithwaite really doesn’t think her Christmas could get any suckier after being dumped via email on Christmas Eve. Until a trip into work on Christmas Day leaves her snowbound in the deserted Fifth Avenue department store with her boss’s far-too-tempting playboy son Ryder Sinclair.

Ryder’s rugged, reckless and none too pleased to be stuck in a place he hates with an uptight workaholic like Kate. But as the night draws on, the lights go out and the temperature rises, until they’re both wondering is this the season to get lucky?

Holiday In Crimson by Patricia Rosemoor

Patricia Rosemoor
As a child, I lived in the far reaches of the city, then in the suburbs of Chicago. I didn’t know much about the downtown area, nearly twenty miles away by electric train, except that I always looked forward to my infrequent trips there. My mom treated me every holiday, taking me downtown to see the Christmas windows of the department stores. My favorites were always the windows of the iconic Marshall Field’s (now Macys) on State Street.

That’s why I used Marshall Fields as the model for Westbrook, the main setting for HOLIDAY IN CRIMSON and NIGHTMARE IN CRIMSON, the related holiday romantic suspense novels from Entangled Publishing for their Dead Sexy line.

About HOLIDAY IN CRIMSON:

Westbrook Department Store's Christmas party wasn't that wild--until, that is, Santa ended up dead. Now window designer Shelby Corbin is the prime suspect in his murder, and the holidays are anything but festive. If Shelby doesn't figure out who killed Santa, she'll be ringing in the new year behind bars.

Westbrook's impossibly sexy co-owner and CEO Rand McNabb's romantic attentions both thrill and frighten Shelby. But is he really helping her search for the truth about that fatal night? Or does Rand have a deadlier motive for courting the only possible witness to the crime...?

In thinking about a holiday romantic mystery, I knew I wanted to use a department store like the one I loved as a child. I wanted to involve the Christmas windows. And I wanted the murder victim to be Santa Claus. No, wait! Not the realSanta. The department store one. Rather the one dressed as Santa for the annual Christmas party. Okay, so I have a bizarre sense of humor.

Part of me is in my heroine Shelby. TheYay! It’s Christmas! part. From the time I moved out on my own until we learned my late husband was ill, I had an annual Christmas tree-trimming party. I made dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies and gave most of them away I collected a new special Christmas ornament every year, just as Shelby does, so I could experience my holiday history every time I looked at the tree.

Because I always loved Christmas, I enjoyed creating this intricately plotted romantic mystery. A fun task, and a fun story, one I hope readers will make readers smile.
