In the U.S. we just had Thanksgiving and we’re on to Christmas. Many already have Christmas trees and lights are up on the house. Are you one of those who string up lights and decorations on your house?

Christmas always makes me think of being a kid and the excitement of the big morning. We always went to church on Christmas Eve for the candle lighting service, which is the most beautiful thing. Sometimes we’d open presents on Christmas Eve because we usually drove to see my aunt, uncle and cousins for Christmas. When I was a kid I wanted an Easy Bake Oven. Another year Cabbage Patch Dolls were the rage. I got one in the summer,

which was a preemie in the summer and then I ended up getting two at Christmas. My parents had My parents had ordered them months before because the stores would sell out almost immediately. But I think my favorite present ever was a huge, stuffed bunny that I got when I was about five. I think it was over 5-ft. tall. I loved that thing! It was yellow and soft and I could sit on its lap. 

These days it’s harder to figure out what I want. What I really want is to be a world-famous author and make my total living off my writing, lol. I’m not sure anyone can give me that present, not even Santa Claus.

Falling For You At Christmas…A Holiday Tale by Kristin Wallace

So since it’s December we’re featuring Christmas-themed stories on Romancing The Genres so I get to do a special “guest post” about my latest Christmas release. FALLING FOR YOU AT CHRISTMAS is a novella that is part of my Shellwater Key Tales series. It’s set in Florida so it gives you a little taste of what Christmas is like in tropical climates. No snow or icy roads, but we do get snowbirds down from the northeast this time of year.

 When I set out to determine an idea for a new Christmas story, I began toying with the notion of writing a modern day “First Christmas” tale…as in Jesus, Mary & Joseph, in a stable, in Bethlehem.

The phrase “no room at the inn” kept ringing in my head. It wasn’t long before Cassie Stephens emerged. A young, single woman who is weeks away from giving birth decides to take a vacation at a quaint Florida inn…only her reservation is lost.

Then I had to create a supporting cast with names suspiciously similar to those that appear in the Nativity story.

-Amelia Lamb, a widow & retired labor/delivery nurse

-Rick & Juliet Shepherd, a long-time married couple

-Henry “King” Stuart, a successful auto dealership owner (His catch phrase is “The King of the Deal”)

The staff at the inn also carries the theme, with Chef Gabrielle Velazquez (yep I made a female archangel) and her father Jésus. (Pronounced “Hey-sus” for my gringo friends).

I had a lot of fun playing with the names and it really turned out to be a sweet story. I hope you will check it out. It’s available now for only 99 cents.
